The Queen Charlotte's Ball was first instated over two hundred and fifty years ago in honour of Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III: she lived from 1744 to 1818.

The ball, held by George III, originally supported the Queen Charlotte's Hospital, a London maternity hospital, and now the Queen Charlotte's Appeal carries on the good work which Lord Winston is involved in.

The ball has also been long associated with debutantes being presented at court. Debutantes are young ladies making their way out of the school room and into society.
The event was held at the Treasury House, Inner Temple and the famous cake is a replica of the birthday cake of Queen Charlotte herself.
